Drop-in Gladfest Fringe

This year we are proud to transform our front lawns into a creative hub with the Gladfest Fringe – a carefully curated space bustling with FREE performances and stalls. Gladfest has worked with the Laura Ashley foundation to design a space with music, storytelling and open-mic poetry. No tickets, no booking, and no charge - come and give it a try!

The Fringe is open from 10am on Saturday and Sunday, and you’ll also be able to grab hot and cold refreshments! Entry is completely free.

This year's programme includes...

Saturday, 7th September

10am-4pm

Theatr Clywd Airstream Caravan

The Theatr Clwyd gang are bringing their gorgeous Airstream caravan to Gladfest! Located just across from the Fringe tent, when you venture inside you’ll find creative story-making workshops using nature and spaces as inspiration. Ideal for anyone of any age.

10am

Pyramid Adventures

Yoga with Pyramid Adventures is an adventure. Join Lucy as she starts each session with a warmup, ensuring that bodies are ready for the adventure ahead. Lucy tells the story, bringing it to life with yoga postures. Children could meet Squish the Fish under the sea, help Lulu the Lion in Africa or climb mountains to meet Babs the Beaver! Each time Lucy does a pose, the children join her. The story comes to an end with a few moments of relaxation - the time to reflect on the adventure the group has had and think about any morals or lessons that can be learnt. Once relaxation is finished, the group will come together for a mindfulness game.

Sessions last about 45 minutes and these adventures are appropriate for 3-8-year olds. All mats and equipment provided.

11.30am

Storytelling with David Bruce

An original story written and performed by David Bruce, with live acoustic accompaniment throughout. Enter a fantasy world set in sixteenth-century Andalucía, complete with Prince and Princess, a magical quest, and talking birds! Illustrated panels help your imagination transport you from the Gladfest tent to Spain. 5-minute mid-session break. Suitable for anyone who can sit for 40 minutes!

Sunday, 8th September

10am - 4pm

Theatr Clywd Airstream Caravan

Another day of creative story-making with the Theatr Clywd team.

11am

Nanw Maelor

Local harpist Nanw is 15 years old and lives in Mold. She’s making a name for herself as one of the area’s most talented young musicians and has just passed her Grade 6 exam with distinction. We are delighted to welcome her relaxing performance to the Fringe - what Sunday mornings were made for.

12pm

Words from the Earth with Caspar Walsh

After an education at AS Neil’s Summerhill, Caspar Walsh has led a creative life. Writing short stories, memoir, thrillers and historical fiction, as well as poetry, Caspar is a passionate advocate for the power of creativity to create community. Join Caspar for a performance inspired by his latest book The Mindful Man on the subject of mindfulness, men’s mental health and the importance of nature connection.

2pm

Pyramid Adventures

A second Pyramid Adventure, this time for older children (8+) which involves more ‘grown up’ strengthening and empowering yoga flows with the children. Warm up, then learn yoga sequences to practise together, slowly adding in more postures as you become confident with the flows. These sessions end with a focussed, story-based relaxation meditation. Sessions last about 45 minutes. All mats and equipment provided.

3pm – 4.30pm

Voice Box Collective

Voicebox is a platform for performance and literature in North East Wales. Now in its fifth year, Voicebox has provided a platform for writers, rappers and musicians and brought national and international talent to Wrexham. Voicebox will showcase some of its open mic talent, renowned for their community voices and a selection from our touring spoken word collective, alongside a performance from Lianne Futia. Lianne is an active part of the collective, recently taking residency at Storyhouse, Chester and taking part in events at Llangollen International Music Festival, Focus Wales and Wrexfest.

Keep an eye on this page for additions and updates to the Fringe programme!

We're on the hunt for family-friendly performers of all kinds to showcase their talents at this year’s festival. If you are a singer, in a band, a comedian, a spoken word poet, if you spin plates, DJ, juggle, or do something we’ve never even heard of, we want you to come and be a part of our family-friendly festival and perform to over 2,000 people across the Gladfest weekend. Whatever your talent – we have the stage and we want you to come and take it.

Gladfest is also offering free stall spaces in return for demonstrations. Woodwork, sewing, sliversmithing - if you have a craft or a talent, we'd love you to come and share it with us.

Finally, we're reaching out to registered charities who would like a pitch at the festival in order to tell people about their work. Pitches are completely free but please note you will need to bring whatever you need with you – banners, chairs, tables – this offer is for a pitch only and there will be no access to electricity.

If you are interested in applying for any of the above, please contact Louisa Yates on 01244 532350 on louisa.yates@gladlib.org.
