Eminent Victorian Artists: Edward Burne-Jones

SOLD OUT. Online booking for this event is now closed.

The second in a short lecture series, showcasing some of the greatest artistic genius of the Victorian period, with Adrian Sumner. All proceeds to Gladstone's Living Heritage Project.

A late Pre-Raphaelite expanding the ideas of Rossetti and his fellows into the dream world of medievalism, the Aesthetic Movement, International Symbolism and Art Nouveau, Edward Burne-Jones became a European phenomenon, admired and imitated through the 1880’s and ‘90s and into the new century. His paintings redefined aesthetic beauty and created a new fashionable ‘look’ and his stained-glass designs echoed throughout Britain, Europe, the United States and beyond. Revived in the 1960’s, Burne-Jones exhibitions, publications, interior and textile designs and his life continue to excite admirers young and old.

Adrian Sumner has worked as an Illustrator, Arts Development Officer and Lecturer in various academic and public institutions including NADFAS. Latterly he was Arts Development Officer for Cheshire West and Chester Council, with a particular interest in Visual Arts. Currently he divides his time between organising study weekends in Britain, cruise ship lectures, painting and exhibiting, and delivering study days and single lectures in Britain and abroad. He has lectured in the History of Art for the University of Liverpool and a variety of groups and societies, to many thousands of people over a period of 20 years.

Tickets are priced at £12 or £23.95 with dinner (2 courses, including tea / coffee).
